Lamp Mission

For about three months now, going on almost four, I've been searching and searching and searching, for new lamps for our living room. A task I thought would be easy, has turned into a pain! Seriously people, is it that hard to find decent lamps that aren't brass, short, ugly, or ridiculously expensive! The last time we got lamps was when we got married eight years ago. They were a wedding present and while I do like them, they've been through the ringer over eight years. We've moved a few times so they've been packed and unpacked. We've had two kids and so they've been bumped, tipped, and knocked off tables. They've gotten lots of good use, but they're looking a little worn and really need to be retired I think. Take a look...

This one is in better shape than it's matching mate, but both of the shades are bent, have a couple spots, and the harps are all bent.

When I began my lamp mission, I figured I'd start at Target. I'm not really looking for super expensive fancy lamps. Just something that goes with our decor, is nice looking, and will give some light to the room at night. Target usually has a nice selection so a good place to start. Well, I did find a few that I liked, but everything is too short! Grrr. A problem that I ran into frequently as I shopped around at Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, & yes even Walmart I tried. I also looked at JCP, but their selection consisted of mainly of brass and that's just not my style. No offense to anyone who has brass lamps, but it just doesn't go with our decor!

Our current lamps are about 23" inches in height and they're sort of a charcoal color. I'd like something similar in height and around the same color or black. Like I said, I'm not looking for fancy & expensive, just modern & reasonable. After all, these days you have to buy the shades and lamps separate on most models which was not the case when we got our lamps eight years ago. A damn shade is like $20+ and most lamps I saw in the short version of what I liked were like $30-$40 so an even bigger lamp is going to cost more.

So if any of you readers have any recommendations as to where to shop to find some decent reasonably priced lamps I'm all for suggestions! Ann, I'm kind of thinking maybe IKEA or HomeGoods? I haven't checked those places. I'm overdue for heading your way since I've been talking about it for a couple months now.

A little side note: My mom is back on her feet again and walking without the boot and walker! Yeah, finally! A couple more weeks of physical therapy just to help strengthen the wrist and ankle some more, but the doctor gave her the go ahead to drive and walk on her own! What a relief!
